Northern Circuit losläuft, ist es ratsam, sich Updates bezüglich der
vulkanischen Aktivität zu holen. Im Besucherzentrum von Whakapapa erhält man
täglich aktuelle Informationen dazu. Da man auf der Route viele Möglichkeiten
hat, unglaublich schöne Fotos zu machen, sollte man ausreichend
Reinigungstücher dabei haben, um Regen, Schnee und Vulkanstaub von den
Objektiven zu entfernen.

Before heading out on the Tongariro Northern Circuit, make sure to check the updates on volcanic activity. The visitor's center in Whakapapa village provides daily information. You will most likely capture a lot of images during this amazing hike, so bring plenty of cleaning cloth to keep your lenses free from rain, snow, and volcanic dust!

Nützliche Informationen
Der Tongariro Northern Circuit ist eine viertägige Wanderung (drei Nächte) und etwas über 43 Kilometer lang. Der Weg ist leicht bis mittelschwer. Wenn man möchte, kann man unterwegs den Gipfel des Mount Ngauruhoe (2.291) besteigen. Für diesen Ausflug sollte man gut zwei Stunden einrechnen.
Tag 1: Whakapapa Village – Mangatepopo Hütte – 8,5 km, Höhe 1.100-1.200 m
Tag 2: Mangatepopo Hütte – Oturere Hütte – 12,8 km, 1.200-1.400 m (500 m Aufstieg, 300 m Abstieg)
Tag 3: Oturere Hütte – Waihohonu Hütte – 7,5 km, 1.400-1.100 m
Tag 4: Waihohonu Hütte – Whakapapa Village – 14,3 km, 1.100-1.100 m (200 m Aufstieg, 200 m Abstieg)
Es ist allgemein bekannt, dass das Wetter in der Umgebung von Vulkanen sehr unbeständig sein kann. Am zweiten Tag der Wanderung erreicht man rund 1.700 Meter. Trotz Sonne kann es dort oben recht kalt werden. Man sollte auf Sonne, Schnee, Regen und Wind vorbereitet sein.
Useful Information
Tongariro Northern Circuit is a four-day hike (three nights) and covers a total of a little bit over 43 kilometers. The difficulty is easy to intermediate. If you want, you can climb up to the summit of Mount Ngauruhoe (2,291). This would add two hours to the overall duration of the hike.
Day 1: Whakapapa village – Mangatepopo hut – 8.5km, altitude 1,100-1,200m
Day 2: Mangatepopo hut – Oturere hut – 12.8km, 1,200-1,400m (500m up and 300m down)
Day 3: Oturere hut – Waihohonu hut – 7.5km, 1,400-1,100m
Day 4: Waihohonu hut – Whakapapa village – 14.3km, 1.100-1,100m (200m up and 200m down)
Volcanoes are famous for notorious weather, and it can shift fast. Day two of the hike takes you up to 1,700 meters, and it can be chilly in the air, despite sunny weather. Be prepared for sun, snow, rain and wind.
