Die Historische Route über landwirtschaftliche Wege ist sowohl für Wanderer als auch für Mountainbiker bestens geeignet. Das milde Klima macht das Gehen in leichter Kleidung angenehm; für die kühlen Abende braucht man ein Set warme Sachen.
Naturliebhaber werden an Flora und Fauna, besonders an der Artenvielfalt der Vögel ihre Freude haben.
In den malerischen Dörfern findet man hübsche Pensionen und gute Restaurants. Es lohnt sich daher nicht, Zelt, Schlafsäcke , Matratzen und Essen für mehrere Tage mitzuschleppen.
Wer etwas Zeit mitbringt, sollte Abstecher in das nahegelegene höchste Gebirge der Algarve, die Serra de Monchique mit dem Thermalbad Monchique machen, dessen Heilquellen schon zur Römerzeit genutzt wurden. Hier entlang verläuft auch der Fernwanderweg Via Algarviana , der wie die Rota Vicentina am Cabo de São Vicente endet.
Aus unserer Sicht ist die Rota Vicentina ein echtes Abenteuer für Outdoor-Liebhaber, die Natur erleben wollen, ohne die empfindliche Umwelt zu gefährden.
The mild climate makes hiking in light clothing enjoyable; for the cool evenings you need a set of warm clothes. Lovers of nature will be delighted of the flora and fauna and especially of the diversity of bird species. You find cosy accommodations and good restaurants in the picturesque little villages, so it's not necessary to carry a tent, mattresses , sleeping-bags and food for several days.
If you have enough time you should make a detour to the nearby highest mountains of the Algarve, the Serra de Monchique with the Spa resort of Monchique, already used by the Romans more than 2000 years ago. The long distance path Via Algarviana crosses Monchique and also finishes at the Cabo de São Vicente like the Rota Vicentina.
From our point of view the Rota Vicentina is a true adventure for people who want to experience nature with as little impact on the landscape as possible.

Wind und Sand an den Stränden sind für Kamera und Objektive nicht gerade ungefährlich, deswegen sollte man unbedingt für entsprechenden Schutz sorgen. Der Fishermen’s Trail gilt als eine der schönsten Wanderungen Europas und bietet viele Möglichkeiten für Outdoor-Aktivitäten. Wenn man gerne surft, findet man hier einige der besten Breaks der Atlantikküste. Cabo de Sao Vicente hat auch erstklassige Kletterrouten. Es lohnt sich, zwischen den Tagesetappen ein wenig Zeit einzuplanen, um diesen Spielplatz zu erkunden. Das nächste Mal werde ich dies sicher machen.

Wind and sandy beaches can be hard on your camera and your lenses. Make sure you protect them well. The Fishermen’s Trail is considered one of the most stunning hikes in Europe and offers plenty of opportunities for lots of outdoor activities. If you are into surfing, some of the best breaks of the Atlantic Coast can be found here. Cabo de Sao Vicente offers first class climbing. It is worth to take some time in between the stages and discover the playgrounds. I will definitely do so next time I am there.

With more than 350 kilometers, the Rota Vicentina along the south-west coast of Portugal is one of the most beautiful hikes in Europe, and often named one of the ten best in the world. It was opened in 2012, backed by private and public entities. The trail leads through the Sudoeste Alentejano e Costa Vicentina natural reserve and connects two of the most stunning, original, and almost untouched regions of Portugal, the Alentejo coast and the western Algarve. The trail project promotes sensitive nature tourism with the aim to protect and preserve the uniqueness of the environment. Arrival is best by airplane via Faro, the capital of the Algarve region.
